Church outreach in defining woman’s role

Women across the world, enjoy different kinds of status and rights. In Greece, or rather in ancient Greece, women were treated as second-class citizens, who were considered inferior to men and had minimal rights. They practically lived the lives of slaves and in seclusion. In their world, men were allowed to have partners outside their marital bond but it was considered immoral or criminal in some countries for women to do the self same.

In Rome, women enjoyed more practical freedom, but not the legal one. The legal structure granted no rights to girls to exercise their freedom, but the society did not consider the girls as that inferior and did not give them the treatment which was given to slaves. They were perpetually expected to display modesty and chastity.

There has invariably been a social code of conduct or behaviour, which was expected out of women. Even now, if one goes into the depth, in some cultures, for illustration in Islam, it is considered immoral for a girl to laugh out loudly in the presence of her male counterparts. Our surroundings are full of such models.

The church believes that as man was produced from the mud; girl was produced by the Jehovah the Lord to give company to the man in the world. He decided that man should not live alone in the world, so one day he put man to sleep and took one of his ribs to create girl. This girl which was made from the rib was then brought to man to live with him and help him in all spheres of life. Also, it was destined that a girl will help man to attain his goals.

Ancient Jews are fond of a stating, which defines how come the God the Father has chosen the rib and not any other portion of the body to create woman. They believe that if the God the Father would have chosen a component of the brain, she would be proud of herself; if he would have chosen a portion of eyes, she would be a matter of lust. Similarly, if he would have chosen a part of hands, she would have fantastic desire to achieve everything; likewise if he would have chosen a portion of the foot, she would be a busy body and would have been roaming around the world. But instead, God the Father has chosen the rib; a portion that invariably remains covered and at the self same time is close to heart. Too, it shows the modesty which a woman displays.

This is also characterised by the remarkable portrait of woman on the Biblical canvas, which was made by Jehovah the Lord and resulted in the formation of Eve. The first woman ever produced is considered as one of the master piece by the god himself.

If one will walk down the corridors of Old Testament, one can go through the work of numerous noble girls, including Norah Sarah, Rachel, Deborah, etc… All these women have believed in god afore time and have taken the message of Christianity to another level.
