There was a time when slavery was considered as the legal profession across the world. Instead, African economy was mostly established on making Muslim individuals slaves and prepare them for the struggle or threat which they are receiving from the misaim nations.

At the time, Christian church has too accepted slavery as the piece of the society and could not think of denying the practise of it. However, from time and again, church professes for the better treatment of slaves and also maintained that the slaves should likewise behave in a more beneficial way with their masters.

The slaves were mostly the war prisoners or were arrested from the other countries which are rules by the colonial powers. Colonial powers get a huge number of people from the countries they rule in as slaves and make them work on the agricultural fields, as the foot soldiers in wars and too use them for the domestic work and sexual pleasures. Slaves had no right to say no to whatever order of their master and as the result the atrocities on them go on on increasing. To much of the amazement, they were made to work like a dog and were not even given adequate to eat and wear on.

Thankfully, during the early medieval period, the attitude of church towards the slaves has changed to one which opposed enslavement of Christians. But yet, not to much respite for the non-Christians, this sympathy was only for the roman Catholics. By the end of the medieval period, enslavement of Christians had been converted to serfdom inside Europe. As the result, the peasants who were working on the fields can not be kicked out of the field precisely like that. Whereas, at the same time, slavery was continuing in the other European colonies with out any stumble stone. For the simular, several popes from different churches have issued their papal bulls to condemn the mistreatment of enslaved native Americans. Though, they were largely ignored.
In his 1839 Pope Gregory XVI condemned all forms of slavery; whereas some American bishops continued to support slavery for several decades after that as well.

Aztecs, who are native Mexican mortals thrown out of their land by Spain, were practicing human sacrifice till the spread of Christianity by Catholic missionaries. Similarly, with the spread of Christianity in various religions, many ill-practices have been abolished by the education and their teachings.

It was women; primarily of American-Indian origin who became the primary supporters of the Latin American Christian church. It was likewise cause of the fact that they were subjected to worse kind of torture by the Spanish military, which was then widely known for its ill-treatment.

Catholic missionaries have made all kinds of efforts to initiate laws to defend the people from the misbehaviour and ill-treatment for the Indians and fought against their enslavement. All this has begun with in 20 years of the discovery of the New World by Europeans in 1492. By December 1511, Antonio de Montesano's, a Dominican friar, was openly rebuked the Spanish rulers of Hispaniola for his 'cruelty and tyranny'. As the result, the king has enacted the Laws of Burgos and Valladolid.
