Chiropractor Builds Bright Future for Three Hundred Tsunami Orphans

By: Martin Bertello

Victims of the 2004 tsunami, these children currently sleep on the floor of a small rental home. They’ve lost everything...their families and homes, all food and provisions, their entire community and way of life.

But Project Save a Child is offering them a new beginning; a real bed to sleep in, a school to attend, and a place to worship will foster their hopes for a brighter future.

Dr. Pete Sulack, a Tennessee chiropractor and founder of Matthew 10 Ministries’ Project Save a Child, is looking to other chiropractors for help in raising the remaining $400,000 required to complete the new housing facility. The complex for orphans – the construction of which began late in 2007 – will include a separate grade school for the local community as well as a small church.

“Providing shelter and caring for the chiropractic needs of people have a great deal in common,” says Sulack. “Both provide an oasis of healing, some soothing calm in a world that can be ferociously difficult.”

Chiropractors who wish to contribute will be provided with cards featuring beautiful images of the orphans. These postcard-sized Health Passes are designed to inspire new patients to visit chiropractors’ offices.

The cards can be used at health expo booths or nutritional stores to initiate a conversation on chiropractic care. Hand them out to your neighbors, friends, and family. Established patients can also be encouraged to give the cards to co-workers and others in their lives.

When a potential new patient presents the Project Save a Child Health Pass, he or she receives a discounted rate of $35 for a first time chiropractic visit, $20 of which will go to Project Save a Child’s orphan housing project.

The housing complex in Sompet, India is going up where a rice paddy once flourished. The ground here is soft, so the land was affordable; however, it was necessary to dig footings twice as deep as usual to ensure a strong foundation.

That foundation and the first floor walls for the housing facility are now completed – three to four feet from the ground to protect against flooding – and the concrete has been poured for the second storey. Preparation for the roof installation is underway.

“In spite of extremely tight living conditions in the temporary rental home shelter, the children have grown both physically and spiritually this past year,” says Sulack. “So imagine how they will flourish with not only a roof over their heads and a floor beneath them, but actual beds to sleep in...and a school to go to! We are proud to offer this unique opportunity to combine the needs of our global community, with those of our valued patients.”

Dr. Pete Sulack is the owner of one of the fastest growing and largest chiropractic clinics in the world. His success has enabled Sulack to pursue a variety of avenues from which to offer help to those in need. His belief that ministering and caring for peoples’ chiropractic needs have much in common led him to found Matthew 10 Ministries in 2004 as a platform from which to care for others.

Sulack and his family spend much of their time traveling to and from India, hosting ministry festivals, and organizing projects – such as Project Save a Child – to assist in the housing and care of orphans.

The Ministry currently lends assistance to more than twelve children's homes in India. Sulack is also the host of a TV talk show, God Can Use You with Dr. Pete. The half-hour weekly program features interviews and celebrities, musical guests, and thought-provoking insights from ministry leaders. Bringing together many of Sulack’s passions, the program also performs random acts of kindness, and makes dreams come true.
